Zumac Ñusta

Text collected by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in his famous "Royal Commentaries of the Incas." The poem is based on an ancient fable that addresses the gift of a divine maiden who, from the heavens, provides people with clean water through the rain. Her brother, furious and jealous, angrily breaks the princess's water pitcher, thereby causing thunder, lightning, and storms.
