sad song, horse blanket, stinging nettle deals with the re-creation of the affective space of a personal memory. While looking at Bleda y Rosa's photos on display for the premiere at the CGAC, I was struck by how they created a total space. You feel the heat of the sun, the smell of farms, the plants you brush into. But more than that, you feel the affect of the environment; emotions wrapped in sensory experience. Likewise, I found myself transported back to a particular memory the day after the unfortunate, early death of a friend. I could feel in my body the intense melancholy of the moment, the funky “horse blanket” profile of wild beer, the discomforting touch of plants on flesh, the alienating warmth of a wedding after loss, the sound of the city around me.
