Children of Drifting Weather is the culmination of a larger collaboration with sculptor Susan Flavell and dramaturge Sian Murphy. Beginning as masks made by Flavell in response to the 2019/2020 bushfires and 2022 floods, the project grew into an orchestral production featuring experimental sculpture, costume, and dance.

Central to the production was a solo percussion instrument—a wooden bread-making bowl re-imagined by Flavell as a hybrid musical sculpture. Played with various objects, the bowl produces natural, earthy timbres to blend with the familiar orchestral textures.
