Unbox is a series of pieces based on a very simple idea: a single instrument or group of instruments (the rhythm group) keeps repeating a rhythmical pattern in a loop stopping it by playing an interruption sound and then starting the pattern again from where it stopped. The instruments of a second group (the melodic group) take the interruptions as cues to play sustained sounds, change pitch, do something new or stop playing altogether.
Every interruption of the rhythmical pattern triggering the reaction of the melodic group, the moment where the sealed sequence of sounds, clutching themselves into a boxed rhythm, is opened, is a moment of discovery, a reenacting the opening of a box containing unknown presents.
