A phosphene is the phenomenon of seeing light without light actually entering the eye. The word phosphene comes from the Greek words“phos”(light) and“phainein”(to show). This beautiful scientific phenomenon happened to me once some years ago during a vacation in the desert area of Gansu province in China. I was extremely thirsty and exhausted. Suddenly, I saw the most gorgeous light I had ever seen. Also, I heard solemn singing coming from the deep desert by a Chinese “troubadour’ who was preying to their god for luck.
