Il-Woong SEO ( is a South Korean composer, resident in France since 2000.

First of all, he studied in Conservatories of the Paris region, classical piano with Jacqueline Landowski and analysis with Naji Hakim and Jean-François Boukobza. Also the harmony and counterpoint with Isabelle Duha and then, he pursued the same discipline at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (2007-2010) with Fabien Waksman, Jean-Baptiste Courtoir and Olivier Trahsier. Since the end of 2010, he started taking composition classes with Martin Matalon from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional d’Aubervilliers-Lacourneuve, thus graduated obtaining his Diplôme d’Étude Musicale in June 2014 with mention très bien.

He was a participant in the Master Class of Kaijah Saariaho at the Conservatory of Aubervilliers-Lacourneuve in 2014. He received orders from ARIAM Ile-de-France for educational projects « musique à l’encre fraîche » in 2012 and 2014.
His electroacoustic composition NANO I was performed at the Perpignan Anthropophonies Electroacoustic Music Festival in February 2016 and 'Emerald' for trio performed by the Proxima Centauri ensemble at the Musicacoustica-Beijing Festival in China in October 2018.
His latest work 'EAU' for 12 instruments with electronic had the world premiere in October, 2020 by Vertixe Sonora ensemble (

He had his internship at the IRCAM of Paris during the Manifeste Festival in 2015 in computer music in the class of Mihail Malik.

From September 2021, he’s teaching the music theory in the conservatories of the Paris region.
