Luís Salomé is a saxophonist born in Guarda, Portugal. He
initiated his musical studies in Banda Filarmónica de Pínzio and
soon after he started studying at Conservatório de Música de São
José da Guarda. Then, he has studied in University of Minho with
Professor Luis Ribeiro for his bachelor degree. From 2019 until
2022 he studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles with
Professors Vincent David, Nicolas Arsenijevic, Pieter Pelles and
Asagi Ito, obtaining his Master degree.
He has obtained the 2
nd prize in the fourth edition of the
Competition Sons da Cabral in the fourth category in 2016, which
took place in Belmonte. Has also won the 2
nd prize in the
International Saxophone Competition Buffet Crampon in the
category C, in the year of 2017 in the city of Braga. He was awarded the 1
st prize at Competition
of Saint Cecilia that occurred in the University of Minho, Braga in 2019. One year later, he has
received the 2nd prize in the Concours International Léopold Bellan. Last year, he won 2
nd prize
in the Alpen Classica Saxfest Competition. In 2023, he won the 1
st Concurso Internacional Alto
Minho, the 3rd prize in Concurso Nacional de Interpretação Contemporânea and the 1
st prize in
International Saxophone Competition “Vitor Santos”
He has participated in several masterclasses with different teachers such as Antonio
Belijar, Arno Bornkamp, Carl-Emmanuel Fisbach, Carlos Gontijo, Fernando Ferreira, Jérôme
Laran, João Pedro Silva, Marcus Weiss, Miha Rogina, Otis Murphy, Philippe Portejoie and Tomás
Munera and also in chamber music with Morphing Quatour and Omar Zoboli.
He has participated in a workshop of Electroacustics with Pure Data taugh by João Pais
in 2013 in TMG (Guarda). He has also participated in several editions of the Musical Festival of
Beira Interior, having played as a soloist with the orchestra of the Conservatory of Guarda.
During the Dias da Música in Belém (Lisbon), he participated in the event Projetar o Futuro com
Arte. Moreover, under the baton of Francesco Bellí, he played in ESPROART (Mirandela) and
Casa da Música (Oporto) in 2012 with the Symphonic Orchestra of ESPROART. Furthermore, he
has presented himself in several saxophone congresses, having played with the EURO Sax 100
Orchestra in SaxOpen in Strasbourg, later with SaxUm Quartet and the Saxophone Ensemble of
the University of Minho in Eursax in Oporto and finally with Quimera Quintet in the World
Saxophone Congress in Zagreb. He has made a solo recital in Teatro Aveirense integrated in
Aveiro_Síntese 2018. He was part of the project “Sente-me, Ouve-me, Vê-me” integrated in the
arts festival BoCA 2019. He took part in the projet Incentivart, which concluded with the
premiere of 3 pieces for solo saxophone by Portuguese composers, inspired by Guarda’s poetry.
He premiered João Carlos Pinto’s Saxophone Concerto with Orquestra das Beiras, conducted by
Nuno Coelho in 2023.
He was a member of the Belgian Saxophone Choir and he is a founding member of
Hodiernus Ensemble and Merus Ensemble playing regularly with these groups and working with
composers on the development of the repertoire.
