Glenn C. Jones was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to Sacramento, California with his family in 1958. He studied music theory, composition, counterpoint, orchestration, conducting, viola, and related topics while a music student at Sacramento City College and Sacramento State University from 1968 to 1973.
In 1973, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served until his retirement at the rank of Major in 1993. In 1991, he graduated from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and practiced law in Sacramento until his retirement in January, 2021.
Since his retirement, he has renewed his interest in composing. On January 30, 2022, the Chamber Players of the Redwoods (Arcata, California) premiered his Toccata for Viola and Piano.
On May 28, 2023, his piece for clarinet, cello and piano, Une Chanson de la Vallee, was premiered by the NED Ensemble in Desanzano, Italy.
His composition for string orchestra, Threnody, was awarded a Jury Special Prize at the Vienna Classical Music Academy’s 2023 International Composition Competition.
In December 2023, his composition for string quartet, When Lilacs Last at the Dooryard Bloom'd, was awarded best composition for string quartet by the Cum Laude Music Awards, and he was named Composer Cum Laude.
He has also completed a Viola Concerto, a piece for orchestra titled An Evening in Jmaa El-Fnaa, and works for string orchestra, string quartet, and chamber ensembles.
He lives in Roseville, California and plays viola in Symphony d’Oro, a community orchestra in Sacramento.
