Matteo Maria Salvo is an italian composer born in Rome and currently living near Bologna.
After his studies in Piano he graduates summa cum laude in Composition with Claudio Scannavini, Donatoni's fellow, and Gilberto Cappelli, Luigi Nono’s pupil and Abbiati Prize in 2001. He completes his studies at Mozarteum in Salzburg with Kurt Schwertsik and Georg Friedrich Haas and in Accademia Chigiana with Luis Bacalov (from whom was awarded a Merit Diploma). Moreover he brilliantly gains a MA in Choir conducting with M° L. Lollini and a MA in Film music with M° De Gaetano and M° Zarrelli at the Conservatory of Bologna. His compositions are played in important institutions such as Casa del Cinema (Roma), Accademia Chigiana (Palazzo Chigi Saracini, Italy), Mozarteum (Grosses studio, Salzburg), Teatro Monumental (Madrid), Sala Accademica del Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra, Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini, Teatro Moriconi (Jesi), Concert Hall of Lviv Philarmonic (Lviv, Ukraine), Teatro del Pratello (Bologna) and in numerous festivals such as Festival Pontino, MusicaRivaFestival, Livorno Music Festival, Italia Green Film Festival, KLK New Music, Religion Today Film Festival, Màntica, Metamorfosi. Among the artists who performed his music RTVE Orchestra (Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra), Orchestra B. Maderna, ContempoArtEnsemble, Maria Grazia Bellocchio, Lviv Philarmonic, Kai Strobel, Marco Ortolani, Maurizio Ben Omar, Olga Arzilli. He studied and attended various masterclasses with Francesco Filidei, Alessandro Solbiati, Christopher Austin, Christopher Young and Pete Anthony, Carlo Crivelli, Toivo Tulev and AV Forum Workshop Spatialization at IRCAM. He distinguished himself in various competitions such as International Composing Competition 2 Agosto, Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Papa Benedetto XIV, International Composing Competition Maurice Ravel and he is the recipient of the Sir Peter Maxwell Davie Prize.
He has just received a commission from MIXTUR Festival for a Miniature to be composed within July (Tutor: Hèctor Parra) and to be played by OCAZEnigma and Carlos Mena; moreover the short animation movie "Tirello - Soap bubbles" (director Alberto Cosentino) with his music was just premiered in Panorama International Short Film Festival.
He teaches at the Conservatory "G. Nicolini" of Piacenza and he publishes with Sonitus Edizioni Musicali and Zedde Editore.
He took his degree in Architecture at the University of Bologna and he loves - besides music - to paint. His first solo exhibition has took place last year near Bologna.
