Nik Bohnenberger was born in Bech/Luxembourg in 1994. At the age of five, he began his musical education by taking up the French Horn. In 2009 he attended the Conservatory of Luxembourg.

He began studying composition with Elena Mendoza at the UdK Berlin in 2018. Bohnenberger also received lessons by Carola Bauckholt, Matthew Shlomowitz, Michael Beil and José María Sánchez Verdú.

As a composer, he has already worked with the "Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg", "Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt-Oder", "United Instruments of Lucilin" and "The Present Vokalensemble". He has participated in the "Luxembourg Composition Academy" and festivals such as "rainy days", "ne(x)t generation", "Bauhausfest Dessau" and "Mixtur" and is a participant in the "impuls" Academy 2023 in Graz. Bohnenberger is co-founder of "Kollektiv Unruhe", a Berlin collective for composers and instrumentalists.
He has worked several times with the Luxembourg Military Orchestra and has received commissions by 'Estro Armonico' ('Pyrphoros'; 2015), by the Centre of Contemporary Arts ('nuages vermeils'; 2016) and by the Bläserphilharmonie Aachen ('Energy Transformation'; 2017). In 2017, his piece for sextet "impulsions et factures" was selected to be performed at the contemporary music festival "Druskomanija" in Vilnius/Lithuania. In 2018, Bohnenberger composed the overture "Festlechen Optakt" for the official celebration of Luxembourg's National Day, which was premiered by the "Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg". His electroacoustic work has been performed at festivals like 'Mehrlicht!Musik', 'ne(x)t generation' and 'Bauhausfest Dessau'
In 2020, he participated in the 'Luxembourg Composition Academy 2020' and collaborated with 'United Instruments of Lucilin' during the festival 'rainy days' for his piece 'Sollbruchstelle'. In 2021, he premiered a large choral-orchestral work with 'Neuer Kammerchor Berlin' and 'Ensemble Wunderkammer' dealing with anti-Semitism in Bach's St. John Passion at the RBB Sendesaal in Berlin. In November 2021 took part in the orchestral masterclass with the 'Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt-Oder'. In 2022, Bohnenberger will take part in the 'Mixtur' master class and festival and will be able to compose for the vocal ensemble 'The Present'. Bohnenberger is a co-founder of 'Kollektiv Unruhe', a collective and ensemble for composers and instrumentalists, which gave its debut concert in September 2021 with eight pieces by Berlin-based composers.
