This unique workshop addresses the challenges of conducting Beethoven’s orchestral music. Each day begins with presentations from William Kinderman. Participants will read his recent study Beethoven: A Political Artist in Revolutionary Times prior to the workshop. Selected conductors will receive generous podium time in rehearsal and performance of selected movements and works, including:
Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto Violin Concerto Second, Fourth and Fifth Symphonies, Leonore Overture No. 3 The workshop faculty guidance will lead to a public performance where participants will demonstrate their insight in realizing the compositions. In this workshop, practical mastery is blended with awareness of the cultural values of Beethoven’s legacy. Inclusion of the Fifth Symphony and the Leonore Overture No. 3 provides a context for engagement with the dramatic and political implications of this music.
Conductors will not find a more thorough Beethoven experience.
