In 2024, the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra – Osesp will celebrate 70 years of existence. As part of this
commemorative year, the Osesp Foundation will hold the first edition of the Latin American Women Composers
Competition.
The three finalist pieces of this competition will be performed by Osesp in a concert open to the public at Sala São Paulo,
on February 19, 2024, under the direction of its Music Director and Chief Conductor Thierry Fischer. Shortly after the end
of the Competition, Osesp will record the winning work among these three. The phonogram resulting from this recording
will be included in an album celebrating the Orchestra's 70th anniversary, alongside works by Andrew Norman, Clarice
Assad, Esteban Benzecry, Felipe Lara, Heinz Holliger and Unsuk Chin.
In addition to the opportunity of having their work recorded and included in an Osesp album, the winner will receive a
prize of USD 5,000.00 (gross).
For the period during which the selected works will be performed by Osesp, during the Competition, the Osesp Foundation
will provide transportation (air or land) to the city of São Paulo, local transportation (to Osesp rehearsals and concerts)
and lodging for finalists who do not reside in the city of São Paulo.
Requirements:
1. Registration is open exclusively to women composers born or naturalized in Latin American countries: Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico,
Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela;
2. There is no age limit;
3. Only symphonic works with a total duration of 7 to 10 minutes will be accepted;
Topics to be addressed: “70 years of Osesp”, “Cultural Celebration”, “Celebration of Art and Culture of the
Americas”;
4. The submitted works must be unpublished and written especially for this occasion;
5. The works may be written for modern orchestra formation, up to 3*3*3*3* — 4331 – tmp+3perc-hp-kbd-str.
