Matej Bunderla was born 1985 in Maribor (SLO). He started his musical education with
piano lessons when he was seven years old. When he was eleven, he discovered the Saxophone and
has been playing it ever since. In 2007 he finished his bachelor degree with distinction and in 2009
his master studies under the mentorship of Mag.Gerald Preinfalk on the University of Music and
Performing Arts in Graz. In 2011 he finished his master in PPCM (Performance practice in
contemporary music) under the Ensemble Klangforum from Wien and in 2013 he completed the
bachelor in Instrumental Pedagogy at the same University.
Bunderla has played in several chamber groups as Los Capo Altros (tango), Sinfonietta
Graz, Wap Sax Quartet (Jazz), Quki Ensemble (cont./free imp.), Oek (cont.) Platypus Ensemble
(cont.), Now sports (free impr.) as well as with Orchestras (Oper Graz, KUG, Toti Big Band
Maribor, European Master Orchestra, Naš Big Band, Ensemble für neue Musik...) and as soloist in
Graz (AT) with the Wind symphonic orchestra of the University Music and Performing of Arts in
Graz. In 2015 he performed Glazunov's Concert for alto saxophone with the chamber orchestra
Diletto Grazioso and his composition Image III. In May 2016 he represented Austria at the
European Union Music festival in Caracas, Venezuela, where he performed the Villa-Lobos
Fantasia and his own composition Image IV. In october 2017 he played the first performance of the
piece Klangrelieff II by S.Santi-Gubini and his piece Barythmic at the EMUfest in Roma, Italy
He is a member of the contemporary music Ensemble Schallfeld (selected as a
representative of Austria, 2016-2017), which started to work in 2013. Also, he is a member of the
MIM Trio Ensemble which performs improvised and new composed music, as well as a member of
Trio Me3 which performs classical music. Since 2019 he is a member of the contemporary art
collective Konglomerat based in Hanover, Germany.
Matej has several years experience with teaching children and was a co-organizer of the
Creative Music Week 2012 (Leutschach,Styria) under the support of the European program Youth in
Action. He constantly works with composers and performs their new pieces, performs as theater
musician, improviser and works as a music teacher in several music schools in Graz (AT). In
February 2020 he started his job at the Police orchestra Lower Saxony. In January 2020 he changed
to the State police orchestra of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
