Adrian Mocanu is a composer working in the field of contemporary classical music. He studied at the National Music Academy of Ukraine and at Centro Superior de Enseñanza Musical Katarina Gurska in Madrid. He has been awarded at such competitions as the 38th Frederic Mompou International Award (Barcelona, 2017), 5th Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition (Vienna, 2022) or XXXIII Young Composers Prize by the SGAE Foundation (Madrid, 2022).
He was the composer-in-residence of JM Spain for the 23/24 season and was granted the Weltoffenes Berlin Fellowship from the Senate of Berlin. Among the residencies he carried out were scholarships of Casa de Velázquez - the Academy of France in Madrid, The Green Room for Performing Artist (Cologne), otte1 (Eckernförde), “Odyssée” program from the Ministry of Culture of France, “Gaude Polonia” from the Ministry of Culture of Poland and “Postcolonial Recherche” from Goethe-Institut.
His works, spanning chamber, vocal, orchestral and electroacoustic music, have been premiered across Europe and North America in collaborations with Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble Recherche, Maulwerker, IEMA-Ensemble, Ensemble Mosaik, PinkNoise Ensemble, Bilbao Sinfonietta, Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Armonia Ludus.
