Aiyana Braun is an award winning composer and sound artist whose works have been described as “groundbreaking” and “explosive yet also meditative” by PBS.

Aiyana was commissioned at the age of fifteen to write her first orchestral work for the New York Philharmonic. At age eleven, she was commission by famed television pioneer and political activist Norman Lear (“All in the Family,” "The Jeffersons,” "The Golden Girls,”) and Maya Angelou (Poet, Humanitarian) to perform an original composition at the Marian Anderson Awards; after which Maya Angelou expressed Aiyana’s music “touched me deeply.” The ceremony also featured performances by broadway veteran Ben Vereen, Grammy Award winner Harry Belafonte, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

She has since worked with orchestras such as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Orkest de Ereprijs, Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Berkeley Symphony, MusicaNova Orchestra, Oxford Alternative Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, and world-renowned artists such as Danny Matsukawa, Principal Bassoonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra; Eric Bartlett, Cellist at the New York Philharmonic; Jon Deak, Associate Principal Bass of the New York Philharmonic; Andrea Obiso, Concertmaster of Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; Sarah Foster-Sproull, Choreographer-in-Residence of the Royal New Zealand Ballet; among others.

Aiyana received her B.M. under full-scholarship at the legendary Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with Multi Grammy and Pulitzer-Prize Winner, Jennifer Higdon; Grammy Winner, Richard Danielpour; and The Juilliard School’s Dean of Music, David Ludwig. She is a graduate of the The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division where she studied under full-scholarship with Manuel Sosa, during which time she was a Teaching Artist at the New York Philharmonic’s “Very Young Composers Program.” She also taught Music Theory and Music History at the Curtis Institute’s “Summerfest” Music Festival.

Aiyana was honored to be in Residence for an International Fellowship at NYU’s Center for Ballet and the Arts from 2020-21 where she collaborated with artists and dancers from around the world. She also was commissioned by the Curtis Institute of Music to write a short ballet, commissioned by the Rock School (featured in Sundance Selects film "First Position". Aiyana frequently collaborates with choreographers, dancers, and visual artists, and is particularly passionate about working with dance as both of her parents are professional dancers and choreographers.

Aiyana has been the recipient of many honors and awards from the BMI foundation, American Composers Forum, and has been featured on the National Public Radio Program “From the Top” as well as several episodes of PBS’s “On Stage at Curtis;” including a mini-documentary entitled Sounds of Musical Expressions: Aiyana Braun. She is currently receiving her M.M. from the University of Southern California under full-scholarship, studying with Two-Time Pulitzer Prize Finalist and Multi Grammy-Nominee, Ted Hearne. She additionally works as a Teaching Assistant for Aural Skills and Music Theory at the University of Southern California.
