Samuel Toro Pérez is an Austrian-Colombian guitarist and performer.

At the age of 13 he started his academic formation in Classical Guitar under the guidance of Prof. Alvaro Pierri at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna. After his graduation with honors he completed the master’s degree program in music pedagogy with Prof. Anders Miolin at the Zurich University of the Arts.

As a chamber musician Samuel regularly performs nationally and internationally with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Phace, Ensemble Interface and the Black Page Orchestra playing both Classical and electric guitar and featuring appearances at festivals such as Wien Modern, Bregenzer Festspiele, ECLAT Stuttgart, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik and Biennale Musica Venice. His solo projects include mixed recitals ranging from Baroque to contemporary music as well as programs focused exclusively on the latter. He works in close collaboration with composers such as Elena Rykova and Jorge Sánchez-Chiong.

Collaboration and exchange with artists from different backgrounds have become persistent and fundamental factors in Samuel’s art practice as a performer, mainly departing from the recontextualisation and alternative reading of the performing body’s movement. Constant and proactive negotiation of working frames and common artistic vocabulary represent recurring drives within his work as a member of transdisciplinary collectives such as «The Present» (Hong Kong/Taipei/Zurich), «not sure» (Darmstadt/Paris/Zurich) and «andother stage» (Vienna).

Samuel currently lives and works in Zurich as a freelance musician and performer and as a guitar tutor at the Allgemeine Musikschule Mutschellen. In 2020 he has joined the Joseph Haydn Department at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna as a guitar tutor in contemporary music.
