SERHII VILKA (b. 1987). Composer, multiinstrumentalist, conductor.
Co-founder of Sed Contra Ensemble.


Graduated as flutist and composer at Tchaikovsky National
Academy of Music in Kyiv, Ukraine. Studied flute with S.
Neugodnikov and composition with prof. Ye. Stankovych. Also
Serhii studied composition with J. Kornowicz in Warsaw during
Gaude Polonia Scholarship in 2019.


As performer, Serhii Vilka played more than 100 world and
ukrainian premieres of many ukrainian and foreign composers.
Some of these works were composed especially for musician.


As flutist he took part at International Ensemble Modern Academy
during Klangspuren Schwaz Tirol festival at 2011 where he
collaborated with composer George Benjamin and conductor
Franck Ollu. In 2019 Serhii participated at European Workshop for
Contemporary Music led by conductor Rüdiger Bohn during 62nd
edition of Warsaw Autumn Festival.


At 2012 he was composer-in-residence at Druskininkai, Lithuania
during International Composer-In-Residence Program. Solo piano
piece “Meditation on the joHn CAGE’s name” which was composed
at this residence was chosen as obligatory piece for Pianists’
Concours in Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in 2016.
Serhii Vilka took part at masterclasses and workshops with Pierre-
Yves Artaud, Johannes Schoellhorn, Jerzy Kornowicz, Chaya
Czernowin, Zygmunt Krauze, Toshio Hosokawa, Juste Janulyte,
Eden Ladin as classical / jazz performer and composer.


Music of Serhii Vilka performs in Ukraine, USA, Germany, Austria,
Poland, Lithuania, Moldova, Armenia.
