Acclaimed for her electrifying performances and compositions, pioneering electro-acoustic violist, Martha Mooke is highly regarded for her artistry, educational programs and music advocacy. She transcends musical boundaries, enhancing classical training with extended techniques, technology and improvisation. A Yamaha Artist and leading clinician on electric and progressive string playing, Mooke has toured with Barbra Streisand, Peter Gabriel, Andrea Bocelli and Star Wars in Concert and performed with David Bowie, Philip Glass, Elton John, Trey Anastasio, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Laurie Anderson, Tony Bennett, Patti Smith and many others. Ms. Mooke has received awards from ASCAP, Meet the Composer, Arts International and multiple Fellowships at the MacDowell Colony. Recent commissions include Invisible Hands for the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Kayomatique for Concert Band for KingswoodOxford School, Dreaming in Sound for Electric Viola, Interactive Video and Multi Channel Audio (Agosto Foundation, Prague, Czech Republic); Skandhas for Symphonic Wind Ensemble (University of St. Thomas, MN), No Ordinary Window for Tribeca New Music Festival, X-ING for electric viola and concert band (ASU Wind Symphony and Ridgewood Concert Band). In demand for her innovative educational programs, presented at ASTA, JEN, NAMM, Midwest Clinic and Music Educators Association National and Regional Conferences, she has held composer residencies at St. George’s School, Vancouver, BC; University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN; Special Music School High School, NYC; Arizona State University; Florida International University and DePauw University, Greencastle, IN, and has lectured at Hartt College, SUNY Purchase, New Jersey City University, Midwest Clinic, NAMM, ASTA National Conferences, and many regional National Educators Association Conferences.
