Gaudeamus invites composers worldwide to write for soprano or tenor saxophone for Tom Sanderman.
Saxophonist Tom Sanderman works as a soloist, is the co-founder of the Dutch experimental ensemble VONK and is a member of Het Nederlands Saxofoon Octet. He also performs as a guest player with other ensembles such as Temko and Bang On A Can. A fierce advocate for contemporary music, Tom has already worked with and commissioned a number of composers, performing and recording several new works and world premieres. He studied saxophone with Ties Mellema and Niels Bijl. He took part in the Bang On A Can Summer Festival 2016 at MASS MoCA (USA) where he collaborated with composers such as Julia Wolfe and John Luther Adams. Tom released his second solo album Whoever You Are Come Forth in 2018 on the label Alaska Records.
Call for sketches
Send a composition sketch with a maximum length of one minute before 1st August via the form at the website. We would like to receive sheet music/PDF and a midi file.
From the entries, a selection will be made for the Reading Session. On 8th August we will make known which sketches are selected. During the Reading Session on 6th September, all selected sketches are played, and you have the opportunity to work with Tom Sanderman. At the end of the Reading Session, several composers will be able to develop their sketch for a whole 5-7-minute composition with a possible performance in Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2020.
