For composers who are legal residents in the countries within the Creative Europe framework

Project Butterfly is looking for three composers who will be in charge of composing the music for a new sustainable opera.

Project Butterfly wants to highlight the environmental issue of climate change through the production of an opera consisting of three acts dedicated to water, air and earth. The selected composers will work hand in hand with students from Italy, Poland and Finland and attend two artistic residencies in Italy and Poland.

After two years of work, the project will culminate, in May 2025, with the premiere of the newly created opera in the partner theatres (Teatro Comunale di Modena, Opera BOX and Baltic Opera) and online. The final production will strongly rely on advanced digital technologies and showcase the pathways for a more sustainable opera production.

⚡Production budget, travel and accommodation expenses will be covered
⚡ Honorarium (11,000 EUR in total) will be given to each composer
⚡ Composers who are legal residents in the countries within the Creative Europe Framework can apply
⚡ Final Performances in Italy, Finland and Poland
⚡ The chosen composer will create the opera score side by side with the librettist

Composers who are legal residents in the countries within the Creative Europe framework can apply starting from June 19, 2023, until September 17, 2023.
