Call for Composers & Workshop

Workshop: "Esplorazioni Sonore: Comporre per violoncello oggi"

The workshop is open to composers of all levels, ages, and nationalities, with a focus on composition for solo cello or cello and electronics. The main goal of the workshop is to allow composers to work directly with the interpreter in the composition process or to discuss previously written pieces within the context of the three-day course, concluding with a concert by the cellist, which will be recorded. Each participant will receive a professional audio-video recording of their own piece.

During the workshop, the morning of the second day will be dedicated to the analysis of extended techniques on the cello, with examples from the wide repertoire. Topics will include the use and writing of natural and artificial harmonics, instrument preparations, alternative instruments, exploration of materials, and the use of contact microphones, as well as the addition of electronics and the interpreter's relationship with them, and scordatura.

Each participant will receive:
- 1 or 2 preliminary meetings via Zoom to be scheduled with the interpreter
- 2 hours of individual workshop time with the interpreter
- Professional audio-video recording of their own piece

The course will take place in the setting of the Musical Residence Villa Magni in Pistoia, surrounded by greenery.

Costs:
Course: 170 EUR + 30 EUR registration
Accommodation (inside the residence): 40 EUR per person per night
