Composition contest with artistic residency "Ragazze e ragazzi. Salvemini 1990" - Fourth Edition 2024 Called by Rocca dei Bentivoglio Foundation as part of the musical festival "Courts, Churches and Courtyards" XXXVIII edition. With the support of the Municipalities of Casalecchio di Reno, Monte San Pietro, Sasso Marconi, Valsamoggia, Zola Predosa of Reno Lavino Samoggia Cultural District and Emilia Romagna Region and with the collaboration of "F. Venezze" of Rovigo (RO).

DESCRIPTION

More than thirty years after the plane crash that on December 6th 1990 caused the death of 12 young students of “Salvemini” Institute in Casalecchio di Reno, the Rocca dei Bentivoglio Foundation announces the composition contest "Girls and boys. Salvemini 1990”.

A qualified jury will select 3 male/female composers who will attend an artistic residence from June 17th to 22th 2024 at the agriturismo "Fattoria Quercia", under the guidance of the pianist Anna D'Errico, the cellist Francesco Dillon, the flautist Manuel Zurria and the composer Paolo Aralla. The contest represents a unicum at national level, it is not strictly configured as a competition but aims to offer young composers the opportunity to share a growth path, both artistic and personal, in close relationship with the performer of their music.

RECIPIENTS The contest is open to Italian and foreign composers born from January 1st 1989 and who have turned 18 on June 16th 2024. Composers who have attended previous editions can also apply for the residency. In case of equal merit scores, preference will be given to those applying for the first time.

SELECTION MODE
The selection of participants will take place by qualifications, based on the curricula and the documentation sent together with the application form.

The jury will be composed of:

Paolo Aralla - composer
Anna D'Errico - pianist
Francesco Dillon - cellist
Manuel Zurria - flautist

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
The contest does not require any subscription fee. The application form must be completed, signed and sent together with the requested attachments exclusively by email to cortichiesecortili@roccadeibentivoglio.it The deadline for sending the applications is set for April 21th 2024, h.24.00 The following documents must be attached to the application: a) a short CV (in Italian or English) b) at least 3 scores of original pieces, with no limitations in the number of instruments (pdf is the only format accepted). For pieces that have already been played, we kindly ask you NOT to send audio/video files but only the link in which the recording can be viewed.

OUTCOMES OF THE SELECTION
The results of the selection will be published by April 30th 2024.
By June 2nd 2024, the selected composers will send the initial part - at least 2 minutes - of the piece for trio (piano, cello, flute) that they intend to complete during the artistic residency.
The three selected composers will attend an artistic residency led by the pianist Anna D'Errico, the cellist Francesco Dillon, the flautist Manuel Zurria and the composer Paolo Aralla, that will take place from June 17th to 22th 2024 at the agriturismo "Fattoria Quercia" in Valsamoggia (BO). The lessons will be held in Italian.
A contribution of 250 euros is required from participants to partially cover the costs of board and lodging. Travel expenses to reach the place of residence are to be paid by the participants.
The residency will end on June 22th with a final concert held by the pianist Anna D'Errico, the cellist Francesco Dillon and the flutist Manuel Zurria at the Rocca dei Bentivoglio (BO) and included in the musical Festival "Corti Chiese e Cortili" XXXVIII edition, in which the pieces composed by the participants will be performed. Another performance is planned at the "Marco Tamburini" Auditorium of the "F. Venezze" Conservatory of Rovigo (RO) on December 6th 2024.

PERMISSIONS
Audio/video recordings of the concert will be taken and broadcasted through the Foundation’s communication channels, for which formal authorization is required. The ownership of the composed pieces will remain with the authors. By participating in this contest, the composers waive his rights of representation and reproduction of the pieces exclusively for the public performance on June 22th 2024.

PRIVACY
According to articles 13 of GDPR 2016/679 (U.E.General Data Protection Regulation) and 13 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 (Code regarding the protection of personal data) we inform you that personal data relating to participants are used for the purposes of the contest only.

CONTROVERSIES
The application to join the contest implies the unconditional acceptance of these Regulations. In the event of disputes, the Court of Bologna will be competent.
